The Labrador laid across my lap and
waited until I filled the bowl with
more popcorn for tossin’.
Broke my own rule because
it was comfort I needed last
night after sitting in
the seat of the one who supports
never ever feeling adequate
in my sighs over their sorrowful day.
Listening leaves me longing only
to undo what was done and
certain my sadness is minuscule,
only minutiae.
